Plein Air Painting
Location: Acadia National Park, Maine coast
Workshop
Dates: 6/14/2009 - 6/19/2009
Contact Person: Mrs. Gail Ribas
This 5-day oil painting workshop is situated on the Maine coast, in one of America's most beautiful national parks, Acadia. The workshop is carefully designed for all ability levels, although some minimal introductory work with oils is helpful. Barrett works closely with each individual, tailoring her instruction to the specific needs of each student and making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Her daily critiques combine humor with keen insights, and her demonstrations are done both on location and in a studio setting, using both brushes and palette knives. Her focus is on developing and improving compositional skills, color mixing with a limited palette, recognizing value relationships and color temperatures, and capturing the essential large shapes that anchor every good painting.
Some comments from Barrett's previous workshop students include:
--"Your demonstrations and technical applications have truly enlightened my approach. It was a fabulous week that ended too soon, a wonderful way to start the summer plein air season. Thank you for a wonderful, meaningful painting experience."
--"The workshop was a wonderful experience for me. I arrived on site feeling like a college freshman, but it was everything you promised it would be and more. What really worked for me was your preparation and instruction in the classroom, the individual attention when painting on site and evaluations afterward. Everyone enjoyed a good laugh...and one last time, thank you!"
