Barrett Edwards
Bringing Light, Color and Emotion to Painting |
|
Barrett Edwards' representational oils capture attention because they invite viewers into a scene. She is known for her ability to infuse her Provencal and Tuscan landscapes with a warmth, color and charm that make you want to be right where she is painting. Born in Chicago, Barrett is a third generation artist whose award-winning work first drew attention in France. Her introductory exhibition at Hotel Talleyrand, Paris, sold out. That success was followed shortly by exhibits at the historic Salon d'Autumne at the Grand Palais in Paris; the Grand Prix International de Peinture de Deauville, and the Grand Prix International de la Cote d'Azur. She has exhibited at Galerie Jean Lammelin (Paris), Atelier Melusine (Switzerland), and her work has been published in a German calendar. She is represented by Anderson Fine Art (St. Simons Island, GA); Columbine Gallery (Frisco, CO); Iris Fine Art (Denver, CO); Sheldon Fine Art (Naples, FL and Newport , RI), and Le Bourdon (Naples).
She has studied under a
variety of nationally recognized artists, including Andrew Peters, Andy
Braitman, Larry Blovits, Gerald Brommer and Tom Nicholas, and finds
continued inspiration in the techniques of Nikolai Fechin and Richard
Schmid.
Barrett began sharing her passion for painting with her own students in 1993, and now teaches popular oil painting workshops in Provence, Tuscany, the Bahamas, and in Acadia National Park, along the beautiful coast of Maine. Her next scheduled workshop is again on the Maine coast, in mid-June 2009.
Whether painting her favorite landscapes of France, Italy or closer to home in Naples or Colorado, Barrett relies upon three guiding elements: color, light, and emotion. Of those three, she considers emotion the most important because she believes art should create a connection that transcends the visual.
Barrett is the founder of the Woman's Art Group, and is a member of Oil Painters of America, Plein Air Artists of Colorado, the Portrait Society of America, the United Arts Council, and various other arts organizations.
